The west side of El Paso is home to some of the most prestigious neighborhoods. The University of Texas at El Paso is nestled on the west side of the Franklin Mountains. Overlooking two countries and the Rio Grande River, UTEP boasts a unique architectural style famous to Bhutan. It is home to some of the trendiest neighborhoods in El Paso, Sunset Heights and Kern Place. Sunset heights has been in existence since the 1890’s. Rich with history and legend, it is rumored to have underground tunnels dating back to the 19th century.
